Thanks for clearing the air
Dear Editor:
The judiciary is the system of courts that interprets and applies the law in the name of the state. The judiciary also provides a mechanism for the resolution of disputes. This branch of the state is often tasked with ensuring equal justice under law. I take the time to recap this because without confidence in the judiciary, our society will collapse. Over the years we have become sensitized to allegations. It was very important for the judiciary to investigate a controversy involving the emailgate defamation lawsuit filed by Attorney General Anand Ramlogan against Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley.
The Judiciary after conducting an independent investigation into the issue that communication was made to the Claimant and his attorney and the failed to submit said communication to attorneys for the Defence, has found no evidence that proves that there was a conspiracy to pervert justice.
The investigation revealed however that there was a failure on the part of one officer to perform duties in accordance with the practice and procedures of the Court. Realising the implications of such an error on the reputation of the officer holder in the Attorney General’s office, the judiciary took swift against the officer involved and has since been re-assigned to other duties. The judiciary took further steps by announcing that it will provide any necessary retraining to confirm that all officers are fully aware of their duties and responsibilities and the need to discharge same with precision, alacrity and fairness.
Kudos to the judiciary! Thank you for clearing the air in such a short time-frame.
