Physical Education to be implemented in Primary Schools
Physical Education (P.E.) must form an integral part of education.
This is according to Education Minister Dr. Tim Gopeesingh who launched the seven-member Sports Advisory Committee in Education as part of his Ministry’s plans to restructure and re-engineer sports and physical education in the nation’s schools.
As a result, he said, P.E. Studies will soon form part of the Primary School curriculum.
Minister Gopeesingh said at the Secondary School level, 8% of the students do Physical Education and Sports at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination and in the last few years, there has been an increase in the pass rate.
According to the Minister, the Sports Advisory Committee in Education will assist in the development of sports and physical education in schools.
He said the seven member team consists of persons who have gained international success in the field of sports.
The Committee Members are:
Derrick Murray – Former West Indies Captain
Hasely Crawford – Former Olympic Gold Medalist
Annette Nott – First Vice President of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee
Larry Romany – Former President of the Olympic Committee
Douglas Camacho – Former President of the Olympic Committee
Cheryl Peters – Former captain of the Trinidad and Tobago Netball Team who shared the 1979 World Championships
Alvin Corneal – Former T&T Football coach
