Dr. Kublalsingh, consider my plight
Dear Editor:
This is an open letter to Dr. Wayne Kublalsingh. I would like to tell him I admire his strength and his desire to fight to the end for his convictions. He is indeed a person who is willing to give his all for whatever cause he believes in. However, I would like him to consider my story and I hope he would reconsider his current actions after hearing it.
Dr. Kublalsingh, I live in Point Fortin. I am a single mother with two children attending secondary school in San Fernando. My husband died a few years back in fatal motor vehicle accident. While Point Fortin is an industrial area, jobs are not plentiful. I have to travel each day to Couva, where I work as an administrative assistant in one of the companies on the Industrial Estate. Each day I am faced with horrendous traffic as I travel to and from work. I have to wake each morning very early to reach to work on time. I cannot see my children off to school, I have to depend on my mother for that. Thank goodness she lives close by. I reach home late and tired every day from having to deal with traffic on my journey home. I cannot spend time with my children and I now have to prepare dinner and eat quickly as I need to go bed very early in order to get up at 3:30 in the morning. My children are also tired as a result of their arduous journey on the road. What quality of life is this!
Dr. Kublalsingh, I am sure you use the Beetham Highway, Churchill-Roosevelt highway, the Uriah Butler highway, the Solomon Hochoy highway whenever you move around Trinidad. I am also sure that there were some people displaced and disadvantaged when these highways were being built. But I ask you to consider where our country would be without these highways? If we considered the needs of a few, ignoring the welfare of a nation, then where would be be?
I cannot wait for this highway to be finished. I cannot wait to reach home on time so I can sit and talk with my children and hear about their day. In short, I need this highway to improve my quality of life. Dr. Kublalsingh, please consider my plight. I am sure I am not alone.
