Ameen gets Brown support
FORGET green. It’s Brown support for the United National Congress’ (UNC) candidate for the July 29 Chaguanas West bye-election Khadijah Ameen. This as co-ordinator of the Network of NGOs of Trinidad and Tobago Hazel Brown has endorsed Ameen’s candidacy.
At a dinner on Sunday at Plaza de Montrose, Chaguanas. Brown handed Ameen a t-shirt with the words, “A Woman’s place is in the House of Parliament.”
Brown said she has worked with Ameen in the past and is someone they believe in and they will support her. “We worked with her since 2003 when she was a Local Government councillor and more in 2010 in her role as the leader of the Local Government Authorities where she took responsibility for mobilising and supporting the women in Local Government. So we worked with her to provide support to those women. So we will support her because that is what we do, we support women,” she said.
When asked if she had any advice for Ameen she said, “be prepared” and to keep in mind that accountability was important.
Meanwhile at the dinner, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar called on supporters to get behind Ameen as she was the only female candidate in the Chaguanas bye-election race.
“I ask you to continue to give Khadijah your support, I know Khadijah will win, but it will be a bloody battle,” she said.
Persad-Bissesar also said she was on a campaign that she did choose, but it is a campaign she will not shy away from. “I will continue to do my best and to do my duty without fear and favour,” she said.
