Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC, assisted by her grandson Kristiano, performs puja in celebration of the Hindu Festival of Maha Shiva Raatri at the Patiram Trace Temple, Penal, on Tuesday night.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC visited 11 temples in her Siparia constituency between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning in observance of the Hindu festival of Maha Shiva Raatri.
The celebration started shortly after 9 pm on Tuesday and ended around 4.30 am on Wednesday. During the visit to the 11 temples, the Prime Minister performed puja and made offerings to persons in the temples.
The ancient festival of Maha Shiva Raatri is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the destroyer of evil in the Holy Trinity of Bramha (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver) and Shiva.
Maha Shiva Raatri, which means “Great Night of Shiva”, is the celebration of the marriage of Shiva to the Goddess, Parvati, or Shakti, uniting two of the greatest forces in the universe.
Earlier on Tuesday, Mrs Persad-Bissessar witnessed Carnival celebrations in Penal.
