Opposition Leader: Disconnected Keith Rowley scornfully ignores the pleas of citizens
Keith Rowley’s interview with the Trinidad Express newspaper published today is yet another appalling example of this PNM government disrespecting the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
This past week several Government Ministers including Rowley himself have berated citizens attempting to shame people for expressing their pain over the Government’s disastrous Budget statement.
In his interview, Rowley shamefully dismissed the outrage being expressed by many as people just being “ irritated”. The Prime Minister further insulted citizens’ valid concerns absurdly blaming the callous remarks from his Ministers on “microphone problems”.
I wish to inform disconnected Keith Rowley that the reality is citizens are not “irritated” they are suffering!
Rowley’s shameful attempt to quell public anger comes a day after our nation witnessed the worst flooding for the year. Yet Rowley makes no mention of, nor offers any words of comfort to the hundreds of people who are waking up today having lost their possessions, including even their homes. There was also one tragic case of an individual swept away by raging floodwaters.
It is ironic that while Rowley’s interview is nothing but a PR stunt to portray him as being in touch with the needs of citizens, he comes off as sounding more out of touch with the people of Trinidad and Tobago than ever before.
As the Rowley government continues to self-destruct I urge all citizens to remain calm and stay strong. I promise you that our nation will emerge stronger from this crisis.
