PM, National Security Minister Clueless on ISIS
PRIME MINISTER Dr. Keith Rowley rushed quickly to improve on the clueless statements made by his National Security Minister Edmund Dillon.
Dr. Rowley, however, is equally uninformed since he, too, not long ago, chastised former Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar for the stand she took against ISIS.
Minister Dillon has declared that first, ISIS is no threat to Trinidad and Tobago and that citizens of our country now fighting with ISIS were free to return home.
Dr. Rowley then stated that ISIS is indeed a threat to T&T.
Fact is, there is only ONE reason for the recruitment of “English-speaking” personnel from non-Islamic states to Syria. This is to have these nationals return to their country and recruit and train cells to activate when the call is made. Do not ever believe that we are not at risk in Trinidad and Tobago.
When Former PM Bissessar co-sponsored the UN resolution on Terrorism , there was to follow a number of legislative and administrative proposals, one of which was to manage the return of trained terrorist back to Trinidad and Tobago.
In Opposition, Dr. Rowley was very critical of that move claiming that co- sponsoring that resolution was a bad move.
As Prime Minister, I hope that Dr. Rowley will reconsider the position and move quickly with the legislative and administrative bundle that is required to fit the resolution.
The question that we must ask as a Nation, is how prepared are we to respond or deal with any local or international terrorist threat to our beloved country.
Yours Faithfully,
Mr. Rushton Paray
