Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar to speak during 62nd Annual Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference
Leader of the Opposition and Member of Parliament for Siparia, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, will address Parliamentarians from around the Commonwealth at the first ‘Regional Hot Topics Forum’ hosted by the Caribbean Americas and Atlantic Region (CAAR) of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).
The Forum takes place during the 62nd annual conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), currently underway in London, United Kingdom from 11-17 December, 2016.
This year, the CPA annual conference will feature workshops and debates on a wide range of topics including the role of the Commonwealth in fostering freedom of religion or belief; ending violence against women and girls; Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Climate Change; radicalisation of young people.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar will address the first CAAR ‘Regional Hot Topics Forum’ on the topic: “Seeking to Increase Women’s Political Participation” scheduled to take place on Thursday 15th December, 2016. The ‘Regional Hot Topics Forum’ of the CAAR aims to provide a space for the CPA Membership and the wider community within a particular region to engage with experts on a particular topic which is of specific regional relevance.
The Opposition Leader was invited to participate in this first ‘Regional Hot Topics Forum’ of the CAAR, in light of her significant accomplishments in the Caribbean political arena and in light of her contributions in the area of increasing women’s participation in politics.
