MP Lee: This Government cannot be trusted — One of lies and deceit
Once again this Rowley led administration has distinctively displayed that they cannot be trusted as they are a government of lies and deceit given the recent announcement by the Ministry of Energy that regular fuel (Ron 83) would no longer be supplied on our local markets.
In the beginning the Minister of Energy when questioned about our fuel security said, ” Trust me, I want to give the country the assurance there will be a smooth transition from the refinery fuel to imported fuel”. As a nation we must now question, where is this smooth transition? What we have seen is not a smooth transition but rather a poorly planned, haphazard, heartless approach which has displaced hundreds of low income users of regular fuel. This has been a decision which has yet again placed more burden on the poor man as hundreds of fisher folk, grass-cutters and taxi drivers using older model vehicles in rural villages depend on this type of fuel for their livelihoods.
In fact what we have seen as a nation is pressure and more pressure for the poor man due to the closure of the refinery and restructuring of Petrotrin. All government’s promises of proper compensation for all, smooth transitioning for fuel security and protection for fence line communities have been false as today besides the thousands of regular fuel users who have been displaced, we have seen government fail to deliver on backpay and severance packages for thousands of workers which they promised by November 30th.
We must therefore question the sincerity of the Prime Minister’s recent announcement and promises of houses for former Petrotrin workers. Is this just another Public relations gimmick to make the government appear as if they care about the Petrotrin workers or gain goodwill until the next general election?
