Youth Arm questions sincerity of calls for political leader Kamla Persad Bissessar to stand down

In the past few days the statements issued by Kevin Ramnarine , Collin Partap and more recently Larry Lalla calling on Political Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar to stand down and not seek re-election have proven that the Incumbent Political Leader still has the popular support of the UNC and her opponents are afraid of her expected victory on Decemeber 5th.

The Youth Arm continues to stress the principle of democracy within the UNC which the party has always upheld. However we ask those opposed to her leadership what are their fears in her contesting the election ? If she has lost her electoral appeal as they are trying to prove then the membership will act accordingly. But the fact remains that Incumbent Leader of the UNC has the popular support of the UNC membership and her opposition at this point are trying many intimidatory tactics to ensure she does not seek re-election.

Internal elections within the UNC always represent a pivotal point in the party’s history and future. However it is clear that those opposed to the leader are focusing on many negatives which at no point in time could be focused or totally blamed on one individual- almost as if the principle of Collective Responsibility has been forgotten.

It is a very concerning that all of the members who have publicly voiced their opinion on the leadership share one fact in common – they have all been rejected by the Screening Committee in their individual bids to contest seats in the past election. Therefore are their concerns genuine or can it be described as “sour grapes” , placing self before nation.

The National Youth Arm Executive stands firmly in support of the Leadership of the Honourable Kamla Persad Bissessar and endorses her bid for re-election.

Her leadership has always operated on ensuring that Youth are equal partners in National Development and Nation Building. She has demonstrated this by the number of Youth she has given the opportunity to serve on state boards, senators and Parliamentarians.

This is a time in which our great must hold steadfast to a stable yet inspirational and visionary leader such as Kamla Persad Bissessar.
