Where is the Evidence?
Dear Editor,
When one is called to serve in the highest offices of the country, it is not without scrutiny. It also brings with it all manner of accusations and allegations whereby one is called upon almost daily to defend him or herself. The recent issue involving the former Solicitor General (SG) Eleanor Donaldson-Honeywell, and her letter to the Prime Minister calling for an investigation to determine whether attorneys involved in prison litigation are engaged in unethical business ventures is one such accusation.
I consider myself a learnt citizen with sound judgement, however, having read the press releases and watched the media coverage surrounding this issue, it is clear to me that it’s another case of “emailgate”. I have to agree with Israel Khan SC, who stated “the standard required to make such a call must be that there are sufficient facts to permit a reasonable inference that a violation has occurred. The exact standard must be that there is present adequate evidence in support of its conclusions to have an investigation. Ms Honeywell SC therefore must provide some reliable information as to justify her letter.”
I believe that Donaldson-Honeywell should provide adequate evidence, detailed allegations and reliable information to justify her call for investigation into a conspiracy.
