UNC Youth: Rowley violated Principles of Leadership, Degrade Women
Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Rowley has once more violated the sacred principles of leadership through his disrespectful and derogatory statements made against the Honourable Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar SC while speaking at a Public meeting held by the People’s National Movement (PNM) on Tuesday night.
Dr. Rowley’s classless statements have not only shown disregard for the office he holds but has managed to reduce the esteem of his position. As the leader of the Opposition one is expected to exhibit some form of class and diplomacy, while one is further required to motivate, appreciate and respect all members of the national community however his statements last Monday have proven to be degrading and degenerating to women nationally while demonstrating his inability to hold such position.
In past years the global community has evolved where women are not only championing the cause for equality and engagement but many of them have risen to the top of lucrative careers and national frameworks which were once male dominated. Thus these statements come as a “slap in the face” or hindrance to the great progress women have made in our society as well as the wave of respect and appreciation they have been receiving.
For an individual that touts himself as the “Prime Minister in waiting” he has yet again set a poor example for the many young impressionable people in our nation. The leader of the Opposition is required to assess government policy while seeking to provide alternative policies however based on his statements; Dr Rowley has shown that his vision for Trinidad and Tobago entails disregard and disrespect to our nation’s women and their accomplishments. If as a leader he does not respect a female in the second highest office of our nation then he most certainly will not respect the many grassroot women of our nation which he claims to care for and represent.
The Youth Arm of the UNC despite knowing that Dr. Keith Rowley lacks the moral capability of apologizing hopes he would put respect before politics while placing nation before self and retract his statements as mark of respect to all the mothers of our great nation. The UNC Youth Arm further calls on both the Women’s and Youth League of the PNM although they may feel betrayed once more by their leader’s lack of vision to stand against disrespect and discrimination against women and youth as we all seek to develop our nation.
Sincerely,
Nicholas Morris
