UNC Women’s Arm extends 5th Anniversary wishes to Political Leader Persad-Bissessar
The Women’s Arm of the United National Congress wishes to extend our best wishes to Prime Minister, the Hon Kamla Persad Bissessar as she celebrates 5 years of being Political Leader of the UNC. On this day, 5 years ago the UNC created history as we elected for the first time a female Political Leader of a major political party in Trinidad and Tobago.
Today, we are proud of her accomplishments, not only as Political Leader of the UNC, but also as the first female Attorney General, the first female Leader of the Opposition and the first female Prime Minister of our country. The Hon Kamla Persad Bissessar has made history, not only in Trinidad and Tobago but also internationally, as she has received numerous awards such as the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman award and the Democracy Medal.
We recognise that the Hon Kamla Persad Bissessar has revolutionised Governance in Trinidad and Tobago, as for the first time we have seen this level of Accountability and Transparency. She continues to account to the people who elected her to office, as we saw just this week when she answered numerous questions in the Parliament during Prime Minister’s Question Time; the first Prime Minister to ever do this. She has also brought the long awaited Procurement Legislation to fruition in order to improve on Procurement processes. She continues to lead this nation with her own unique style of consensus building, caring and humility. We have seen that she continues to put the children of this land first, whether it is in the laptops distributed to the students, or schools built or the expansion of tertiary education programs.
We are of the firm view that the Hon Kamla Persad Bissessar has delivered to the people of this country as Prime Minister and she continues to do so. The Women’s Arm of the UNC takes great pride in extending Happy Anniversary to the Hon Kamla Persad Bissessar and we pledge to continue to support her as Political Leader of the UNC.
Yours in Service,
