UNC International demands apology from Dr Keith Rowley
Women in Trinidad and Tobago and across the world have struggled for decades to attain equality in the professional world and to be able to stand on equal ground in what was once considered a man’s world.
The Honourable Kamla Persad Bissessar SC has been a trailblazer for women not only locally but regionally and internationally. Her philosophy and style of politics has caused us to move away from one that is gutter and tribal to one where there is discussion and conversation from the platform. She has stressed that there continues to be an equal space and place for women and for all persons.
The statements of Dr Keith Rowley on the platform at La Horquetta on March 17, 2015 are not only repulsive, offensive and embarrassing to the nation but it is testimony that the Leadership of the PNM is backward, desperate and fighting to keep afloat in an environment where the PNM no longer sits
We must carefully the PNM’s repeated boasts of a long history because it appears that the PNM wants this country to exist in past and not the future. This is why Keith Rowley and the PNM have stood against every single progressive measure pursued by Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar. It is buried so deeply in Rowley’s and the PNM’s DNA that they think it okay to prance with an under-aged minor and more recently to nauseatingly insult every girl, mother, grandmother, aunt…every woman in Trinidad and Tobago.
I therefore challenge the Women of the PNM to demand an apology not only to the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago but to all women and more so to the women of the PNM who have worked tirelessly to ensure that they left a legacy. To do otherwise would tantamount to an acceptance that PNM women are simply hostages to an overly egotistic and chauvinistic leader who is yet to comprehend the likes of gentlemen like UN General Secretary Ban Ki Moon “it does not take a great leap of faith to understand that the future peace and security of the world depends on unleashing the power of women”.
I encourage all women to stand strong in the assurance of the Honourable Prime Minister’s strong leadership and protection of their rights and freedom. Do not be daunted by relics of the past such as Keith Rowley.
Yours in partnership,
