UNC Chairman: Tim Kees Resignation a victory for Gender Equality and Protection
As Chairman of the United National Congress I welcome the resignation of Embattled Port of Spain Mayor Raymond Tim Kee over his insensitive and misogynist statements in relation to the murder of Japanese National Asami Nagakiya over the Carnival Period.
One cannot give Former Mayor Tim Kee any points for performing the moral act and adhering to wishes of the population as he sought to mislead the public at first and was only due to pressure from his leadership that he succumbed.
Mayor Tim Kee brought the office of mayor into the most unfortunate form of disrepute in the nation’s history of Local Government due to his sexist comments which greatly offended the female population and then attempting to mislead the population on his resignation.
This is a situation that all holders of Public Office can learn from. As leaders we must always strive to create an environment that is inclusive of all and promotes equality especially for our women and young girls.
As leaders it is also important that we adhere to the will and voices of the nation.
I congratulate all those valiant citizens who stood up for what is right . In unity there was indeed strength and they must continue to remain vigilant to ensure our Nations sustainable development.
