UNC Chairman Lee : Tim Kee cannot be trusted

As Chairman of the United National Congress it is my view that embattled Port of Spain Mayor Raymond Tim Kee has yet again insulted the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago with his failure to follow through with his planned resignation.This blatant and unrepentant display of dishonesty cannot be tolerated.

Last week Mayor Tim Kee disrespected the women of this nation with his unsympathetic and misogynist statements in relation to the murder of Japanese national Asami Nagakiya.

The outcry from the national community eventually compelled Mayor Tim Kee to apologise and announce his intention to do the hounourable thing and resign since his statements had cast aspersions on the integrity of the Office of the Mayor of Port of Spain.

It appears however that this was just a “cheap political trick” or Public Relations since according to published news reports Mr. Tim Kee did not keep his word to resign.

Mayor Tim Kee must be reminded that calls for his resignation were not political in nature but rather were based on an international precedent where leaders and holders of Public Office are supposed to do all in their remit to encourage gender equality and protection.

Therefore calls for his resignation were as a result of him disrespecting global protocol and threatening the fabric of sustainable national development based on equality.

Mayor Tim Kee has further brought his office into disrepute by not following through with his resignation which he committed to over the weekend.

Misleading the public for political gain is one of the most unethical acts any Public Office holder can commit and this further exemplifies why Mayor Tim Kee should resign.

The ball is now in the court of the Prime Minister who indicated he didn’t condone the statements of Tim kee and commended his resignation.Since Mr. Tim Kee cannot be trusted to do the right thing, we look to the Political Leader of the PNM and Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley to guide Mayor Tim Kee and the PNM councillors in the Port of Spain City Corporation to do the right thing.
