The United National Congress has completed the screening process for the selection of candidates in preparation for the General Election due this year.
Over the past few weeks, the UNC has named several candidates who will represent the party in the election and champion the development work which team UNC has been engaged in within all constituencies throughout the country in the last five years.
Team UNC has been actively pursuing programmes based on our National Economic Transformation plan as well as building national consensus on the way forward to rescuing our nation, as a result, these candidates reflect not only the will of the UNC membership within these constituencies but the voices of those citizens who have been constantly calling out for change as well as better representation.
The UNC is pleased to welcome
· Ms Flora Singh for the constituency of Arima
· Senator Saddam Hosein for the constituency of Barataria/San Juan
· Mr Dinesh Rambally for the constituency of Chaguanas West
· Mr. Maurice Hoyte for the constituency of D’Abadie/O’Meara
· Ms. Nabila Greene for the constituency of Toco Sangre Grande
Flora Singh served as the elected Local Government Representative for Arima West/ O’Meara from 2010 to 2013. Given her dynamic track record as a representative, Flora has put herself forward to bring much-needed representation to the people of Arima who have been forgotten for the last five years.
Saddam Hosein has served as an Opposition Senator over the past three years, fighting for the rights, liberties and equitable development of our citizens. He is also actively involved in community work, providing much-needed food support and masks during the pandemic to people in need.
From working as State Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to his own law firm as an Advocate Attorney, Saddam has the political will, vision and experience needed to continue and enhance the work of stalwart MP Fuad Khan.
He was called to the bar in 2014 and has extensive experience both in criminal and civil law.
Saddam has a drive to build better communities and help the people of Barataria/San Juan realize their potential.
Dinesh Rambally has contributed significantly to the social, economic and cultural development of the constituency of Chaguanas West.
Dinesh is an Attorney at Law with over 19 years’ experience which has included selfless humanitarian efforts as he has consistently fought for the rights, wellbeing, and way of life of citizens based on his vision of equality for all.
Dinesh has also served as an Industrial Court Judge and as the Legal Advisor to the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha as well as the National Council for Indian Culture where he has been a champion for equality, cultural promotion and human development especially as it relates to education.
Within the constituency, Dinesh has been active with the Munroe Road Village Council and other groups where he has worked to create structures which can work to reduce poverty, allow for sustainable youth development as well as empowerment of women.
Maurice Hoyte, a resident of D’Abadie/ O’Meara for the past 28 years, has seen the constituency that he holds so dear to him being reduced to a shell of its former self under the present representative and he has sought to make a stand for the people of D’Abadie/ O’Meara by offering himself as the UNC’s candidate for the 2020 General Elections.
He holds a Masters degree in small and medium enterprise management as well as a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness from the University of the West Indies. Mr Hoyte believes that his experience as a teacher and an entrepreneur will assist him greatly in the fight to return good governance and proper representation to the people of D’Abadie/ O’Meara with the UNC.
Nabila Greene is a young, ambitious, and successful woman, who has always been active within the constituency of Toco/Sangre Grande since the days of Dr. Rupert Griffith. At just 29 years of age, she has spent most of her adult life working for the people of Toco/Sangre Grande.
Nabila holds a university bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of the Southern Caribbean and a certificate in restorative practices from the International Institute of Restorative Practices. She is presently the Youth officer of the Grand Riviere Village Council as well as the president of the Toco Youths United group.
“Our team for the 2020 General Election is a mix of the young and the not so young,” Political Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said. “It is my intention to marry youth with experience; to give our young people a chance at leadership and to further empower them. They are the future of our nation.”
The United National Congress remains focused on listening to the concerns of citizens throughout the country and providing solutions. The party is ready to govern and take Trinidad and Tobago forward.
