Rising Food Prices Under PNM: Time for Change with the UNC
Over the past nine years under the PNM government, the prices of basic food items have skyrocketed, leaving citizens struggling to make ends meet. As fuel prices increase, so do transportation costs, which directly affect the cost of food. Let’s take a look at eleven basic food items and how their prices have risen drastically under the PNM compared to when the UNC was in office:
Flour 2kg: $12.99 to $18.49
Rice 2kg: $19.99 to $28.99
Margarine: $7.99 to $15.75
Curry: $6.99 to $11.99
Corned beef: $14.00 to $26.95
Sugar 1800g: $15.99 to $26.95
Full cream milk: $9.99 to $18.99
Sardines: $5.99 to $13.95
Aloo (potato): $2.50 to $5.95
Garlic: $10.00 to $15.00
Onion: $2.50 to $5.95
In 2015, under the UNC, this basket of goods cost $109. Today, under the PNM, it costs $189. That’s a staggering increase of $80, or 73%, for just eleven essential items.
It’s time for a change. It’s time to elect a UNC government that will ease the burden on families, stabilize food prices, and put the needs of the people first.
