PNM motion defeated in the Lower House
The private motion brought by the Opposition PNM on, what was referred to as, “the Prime Minister’s failure to deal expeditiously with the member for Chaguanas West, Jack Warner,” has failed in the House of Representatives.
Acting Prime Minister Errol McLeod defended Prime Minister Kamla PersadBissessar’s handling of the mounting CONCACAF/FIFA allegations against Mr. Warner.
Mr. Warner has since resigned as Minister of National Security, Chairman of the United National Congress (Unc) And MM for Chaguanas West.
Mr. McLeod said it’s ridiculous to blame the Prime Minister for the actions she took with respect to the allegations of bribery and corruption against the former government minister.
Mr. McLeod said the fact that the PM accepted Mr. Warner’s resignation proved that she took a stance on the issue that was damaging the image of the country.
Mr. McLeod also the Pointe a Pierre MP said the Prime Minister did what she had to do.
Mr. McLeod was responding to Opposition Leader, Dr. Keith Rowley, as he wrapped up debate on his motion against the prime minister in the Lower House.
Dr. Rowley said while the motion ends, the issue will not.
Acting Prime Minister McLeod called on the opposition and detractors of Mr. Warner to allow the investigations into the allegations made against the former minister to take its course.
