PM mourns passing of senior journalist Sandra Chouthi
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Monday extended condolences to the family of senior journalist Sandra Chouthi, who died following a battle with cancer.
In a statement issued Monday afternoon, Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar said: “Sandra was a true beacon of integrity in journalism. Her dedication was an inspiration to many young reporters who worked and grew under her guidance,” the Prime Minister said.
“Perhaps her most admirable trait was how well she epitomised the modern, professional woman; she made balancing a demanding career and her personal life appear so effortless. And even as her battle with cancer advanced, she always stood as an example of dignity and achievement.”
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar said Ms Chouthi’s untimely passing is a significant loss to the media, and the country. “She took her work seriously, never wavered in her mission to bring the truth to her readers, and was well regarded for her commitment to excellence.”
“On behalf of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, I extend my deepest condolences to Ms Chouthi’s family, friends and media colleagues. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. May she rest in peace,” Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar stated.
