Padarath: TUTTA has a role in Parental Responsibility Legislation
Princes Town MP, Barry Padarath in a press release stated that he was happy to have heard this morning on CNC3’s the Morning Brew with Hema Ramkissoon, the support given by the president of TUTTA Lynsley Doodhai, for his call for Parental Responsibility Legislation .
The Princes Town MP indicated that TUTTA has a role to play in bringing this legislation forward, especially at a time when there appears to be an increase in deviant behaviour among children in our nation’s schools.
He indicated that he would be writing to the President of TUTTA, the Minister of Education, the Attorney General and the National Parent Teachers Association, seeking a meeting to discuss the proposal to bring this legislation to the Parliament.
Padarath who has been advocating for the Parental Responsibility Act, stated that this was an opportunity for a bipartisan approach to be adopted by both the government and the opposition to deal with violence in schools, bullying and also as a long term measure to deterring crime. He also called on other stakeholder groups to support this initiative since several other commonwealth countries such as Canada and the United Kingdom had similar pieces of legislation that has assisted them in the reduction of deviant behaviour and bullying in schools.
MP Padarath called on TUTTA and other stakeholders to not shirk their responsibility and assist in leading the charge that would create fundamental changes in our society especially among our nation’s children. He added that if we were to make real positive changes in our society then our leaders must not be afraid to be a part of the bold decision making that brings about the change.
