PADARATH: ROWLEY’S MATHS WRONG
Princes Town MP Barry Padarath slammed Prime Minister Keith Rowley for giving his government a seven out of ten grade after the completion of the People’s National Movement first year in office since the September 7th 2015 General Election. Padarath challenged the Prime Minister to indicate what yardstick he had used to measure his government’s performance since his assessment results was not reflected in any sector in the society.
Padarath further stated that since coming into government, the crime situation had spiraled out of control and murders were significantly higher this year than at the same time last year. He also stated that the Prime Minister appeared to be oblivious that thousands of citizens were now unemployed compared to last year and this was evident in the recent CSO findings.
The MP lamented that the quality of life of citizens were worse off one year later with a People’s National Movement government and pointed to the social, education, health and infrastructure sectors. He added that the government’s harsh policies illustrated that they were without a plan coming into government and while he understood the economic climate that we currently live in, he believes the government had failed to balance the needs of the population especially the poor and vulnerable with the stringent economic measures that should really be targeting those in high income brackets.
Padarath said that the government cannot tax the nation into prosperity and that the government was focusing only on taxation and not looking at areas where they could invest in to create economic activity and jobs.
The MP also cited that government ministers continuously contradict each other’s statements and gave the example of the Attorney General and the Minister of Finance most recently. He also criticised the Prime Minister for his jaunts abroad to attend weddings and play golf when the country was in need of direction and leadership.
Padarath stated that the Prime Minister needed to get serious about good governance and that the population was weary and tired of the blame game and expects the government to start performing. He added that the government cannot continue to make excuses for their failure since they were in charge now.
The Princes Town MP called on the Prime Minister to review his maths and take a closer look especially at the areas of health, national security, education and the economy. Padarath added that these 4 areas were in shambles and that the Prime Minister needed to face reality and give them a failing grade. He looks forward to the removal of these four ministers in particular and called on the Prime Minister to stop burying his head in the sand. The MP stated that if the Prime Minister was to do an honest review of his maths he may end up with minus seven instead of seven out of ten.
He once again challenged the Prime Minister to indicate which area or areas he saw significant progress in to deserve a score of seven out of ten especially when jobs are being lost, Zika is rampant, there is no medication in the hospitals, crime is out of control, food prices are soaring and there is no cohesion in the government.
