PADARATH: ROWLEY OBSESSED WITH TRAPPINGS OF OFFICE
Princes Town MP Barry Padarath, in a press release says that the Cazabon exhibition currently taking place at the Prime Minister’s residence and Diplomatic Centre is an insult to the population.
He indicated that when the purchase was made by the government, the opposition’s criticism was not because they were against preserving art but rather the criticism was because of the timing of the purchase in light of so many socio economic issues affecting the country.
The MP stated that government’s actions and public utterances continue to contradict each other and the priorities of the government appeared to be mixed up. He lamented that the government has placed pressing issues of the country on the back burner while placing focus on vanity projects. He further stated that the average man and woman was more concerned about proper healthcare, books for their children, housing, high food prices, unemployment and crime.
He stated that the Prime Minister’s speech at the opening of the exhibition was reminiscent of the Emperor without clothes oblivious to the plight of the ordinary citizen while he continues to splurge at taxpayer’s expenses. Padarath said that the country needed real results and leadership at this time and is not one bit interested in the frivolity of wine and cheese exhibitions when there are so many burning issues that require the Prime Minister’s attention and leadership.
The press release stated that Padarath was disappointed in the Prime Minister’s speech at the opening of the exhibition because it failed to deal with any substantive issues affecting the country. He said he would have preferred for the Prime Minister to tell the country of his plans to create jobs, his plans to create new sectors in the creative industries and how he plans to grow the economy.
Padarath reminded the Prime Minister that the Cazabon exhibition had no bearing on the thousands that lost their jobs and the thousands whose family has been ripped apart because of crime. He told the Prime Minister that this is not a tea party that he is hosting and that it was a country he was running.
He also indicated that it was very evident that the Prime Minister was obsessed with the trappings of his office rather than the substantive work in getting the country on solid footing. He recalled that Rowley had been out of the country over nine times since becoming Prime Minister, several of which were jaunts to attend weddings, play golf and vacation.
Padarath said this Cazabon exhibition was another example of Rowley’s frolic at taxpayers’ expense. He challenged the Prime Minister to say how many lives he expects to be enriched by attending the Cazabon exhibition since the majority of citizens are more concerned with the real day to day issues affecting the nation.
