Padarath: Is the Stress of being Prime Minister getting to Rowley?
Princes Town MP Barry Padarath in a Press Release said he felt compelled to comment on the behavior of Prime Minister Keith Rowley at the recent PNM meeting in St. Joseph. He said that a clip of the Prime Minister speech had gone viral on social media and that it appeared that the stress associated with the Office of the Prime Minister was clearly getting to Rowley.
He referred to the Prime Minister jumping up and down and gesticulating in a very bizarre manner as a far cry from the Prime Minister’s attempt to be statesman like on election night when he promised to be a Prime Minister for all the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
Padarath said that Rowley’s language was nothing short of crass and disrespectful to high office holders in this country. He stated that the response from social media has been overwhelming on the Prime Minister’s bizarre behavior and many were questioning whether the Prime Minister was having problems coping with the stress of the office. He said that there were also others who claimed that this was a reflection on the real personality of the Prime Minister and supported their claim of the former Prime Minister Patrick Manning that Rowley became a “Raging Bull” when opposed and often behaved like a “hooligan and wajang”.
Padarath said he was deeply concerned that the Prime Minister’s behavior can affect the international image of this country and encouraged the Prime Minister to seek professional help if needed.
He further added that this was not the first time the Prime Minister had behaved like this in the public domain. Padarath stated that he would like to give the Prime Minister the benefit of the doubt that this is not a personality issue but rather that the stress associated with the Office of the Prime Minister was starting to affect Dr. Rowley psychologically as reflected in his bizarre behavior at the St. Joseph meeting. He feared that this can undermine the Office of the Prime Minister since it appeared that the office holder was out of control. Is the Prime Minister cracking under pressure?
