No ICC Clearance for Tarouba Stadium
Princes Town MP Barry Padarath questioned Sport Minister Daryl Smith today in the Parliament about whether the Brian Lara Stadium had accreditation and clearance from the International Cricket Council in light of the stadium’s opening tomorrow.
Smith admitted in the Parliament that the International Cricket Council who governs world cricket, had given no approval and accreditation for the facility.
The Princes Town MP raised that there were concerns that the stadium was in contravention of the International Cricket Council laws and that further works would have to be done to conform to these laws. He further indicated that there will be additional cost to the facility for it to meet compliance with the International Cricket Council laws.
Padarath who previously raised the issue of the safety of the stadium, indicated that neither UDECOTT nor the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs have advised the national community on what specific measures were put in place to deal with the issues identified in the MC Cafferey report, which informed the UFF commission of inquiry that states that two sets of independent tests were done on the welds of the Brian Lara Stadium and it failed the requisite standards.
Padarath has called for the cancellation of tomorrow’s opening in light of the Minister of Sport admission that the facility did not have international cricket council accreditation and clearance and also seeing that the safety issues regarding the stadium has not been addressed.
