No end to Caroni matter
THE EDITOR: Former workers of Caroni (1975) Limited like myself have been waiting too long on the housing lots offered to us in the VSEP packages.
Last year, only a fraction received theirs but what about the thousands more who are still waiting? Almost a decade has passed and there seems to be no end to this matter. The previous government appears like saints, free of any culpability. They have wronged the people with broken promises. True leadership lies in honouring one’s words. A pundit once said to me that we could hold on to it with our hearts but we will never get it. I am of a different religious background but maybe his words hold true.
Our ancestors, our parents and our generation have toiled on these lands and made immeasurable sacrifices to shape this nation. The lands are once again overgrown with bushes. Madam Prime Minister, when will it be ready? We ask today for what we have agreed to.
We have been laid back and silent for too long. Our silence does not mean we are ignorant of what is going on. How long again must we wait? Surely, the cries of the ones who have contributed to society are seldom heard.
