New Highway: A Symbol of Progress
Dear Editor,
I am heartened to see that the first section of the new highway is finally opened. I congratulate the Prime Minister and the PP Government for their vision and perseverance in making this dream a reality.
This highway project has been plagued by controversy by a certain group claiming displacement and environmental degradation. The road to development will always be controversial as not everyone will agree with proposed plans and specific directions of the Government. However, as the Prime Minister reiterated, “We have to consider the greater good and not the individual because it will be thousands of people in the country who will benefit.” And, the fact is that apart from the small group of protesters, the average citizen on the street supports the new highway in its entirety.
As a citizen, I feel a sense of pride and confidence in the Prime Minister and the Government whenever they are able to deliver on their developmental promises. It is my hope that the detracting group can recognise the long-term value and potential economic benefits the entire highway can bring to Trinidad and Tobago.
