Mr Warner, United We Stand, Divided We Fall
Mr Jack Warner has launched his Independent Liberal Party (ILP) in his campaign for re-election into the Chaguanas West seat. But, what exactly does Mr Warner hope to accomplish by running against the UNC? Mr Warner claims that he has no fight against the Prime Minister, though he has openly raged war on what he calls the “cabal” in the Government.
Dr Rowley has also stated that the enemy of his enemy is his friend. Does this mean that the Opposition leader is forging alliance with Warner’s ILP? Mr Warner tries to convince the electorate to vote for representation over party. However, the hidden message here is for people of Chaguanas West to vote for one individual over the ruling Government. This presents a very serious implication for the constituents of Chaguanas West, because they risk moving from being in Government to Opposition.
Now, Mr Warner could have campaigned as an independent candidate if he truly cared about the constituents. However, having formed his own political party, he clearly is intent on de-stabilising the PP Government. Mr Warner, if you really care for the constituents of Chaguanas West and the country at large, let good sense prevail and stop this madness. The People’s Partnership only came into Government after the Prime Minister was able to unite several political facets under one umbrella. So, what is Mr Warner asking us to do now? Mr Warner, united we stand, but divided we fall.
