MP Mohit: Faris Joins Vigil, Hypocritical, Bring Pepper Spray Legislation Now
The Attorney General should not delay the pepper spray legislation any further, since if his memory serves him right he will recall his own advice on candle light vigils and crocodile tears on the pavement.
Whilst this country mourned the death of Andrea Bharatt, the Attorney General’s words of comfort to our citizens was yet another blunder where he publicly lambasted the Opposition to support the Evidence Amendment Bill.
We must remember on the very day of the young Andrea Bharatt’s Funeral; the Opposition gave the support to the Evidence Amendment Bill. On Tuesday 9th March, 2021 just a few weeks later Adeina Alleyne, a 36-year-old mother was killed in front of her children. Yet another heart-wrenching experience.
What is the Attorney General’s excuse today, to our Nation’s women who now fear for their lives more than ever before? We will gladly appreciate his public plea for us to support the Pepper Spray Legislation.
Earlier this week the Attorney General, through the Express Newspaper stated that the Cabinet will consider the Pepper Spray Legislation, on Thursday 11th March, 2021 and he expects to take the actual legislation to Parliament almost immediately.
It got even worse when the Prime Minister responded to the Opposition on Friday 12th March, 2021, just one day later, yet again displaying his usual arrogance by blaming the Opposition for his Government’s lack of efficiency.
We are reminding the government that the mind games and political tricks they continuously attempt to play with our citizens are tampering with the patience of women who have been demonstrating that they can no longer feel safe in neither of their personal spaces nor the public.
The Attorney General must be reminded that our women need him to do something immediately and he must understand the words of his very own colleague who only woke up from an extremely lengthy sleep yesterday, Minister of Gender and Child Affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister Ayanna Webster-Roy, the value of human life.
