MP Lee: Gallons of water wasting as the urgent need to repair a leak in Tarouba ignored
As the Member of Parliament for Pointe a Pierre, I am calling on the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) to take urgent and immediate action to stop gallons of clean water from being wasted due to a neglected leak along Tarouba Road, Marabella.
It is totally disgraceful that despite reports of this leak to WASA by residents of Tarouba on December 11th 2020, this case ( case number 6028940) has been repeatedly ignored. The leak, located in the vicinity of LP NO. 69, Tarouba Road, Marabella, is not only wasting gallons of clean water at a time when thousands around our nation do not have a reliable water supply but it is also threatening to cause damage to surrounding properties.
As a matter of fact, it is ironic and erroneous that while the residents of Macaulay as well as Claxton Bay face severe shortages of water on a regular basis, clean water is “going down the drain” in the southern part of the constituency due to the incompetence, negligence and poor service by those charged with the responsibility to ensure critical issues such as these are alleviated in a timely manner.
Residents have become frustrated over this issue since their calls to the Customer Service Hotline of WASA are going unanswered while only today my team was told that immediate action will not be taken and will be looked into next week. Too many citizens are facing water shortages which can only intensify with the dry season for this leak to be allowed to persist for an entire weekend and beyond.
I am calling for WASA to ensure this leak is repaired within the next 24 hours for the sake of preserving our water supply and the comfort of my constituents who reside along Tarouba Road, Marabella.
