MP Khadijah Ameen calls for investigation into hospital failure
Member of Parliament for St. Augustine, Khadijah Ameen is calling on the Minister of Health, The Hon. Mr. Terrance Deyalsingh to clear the air on an incident circulating on social media of a 21 year old mother who was allegedly discharged without stitches after a C-section that occurred at the Port of Spain General Hospital.
According to information received, on April 23rd 2023, the victim delivered a baby via C-section and was discharged two days later on April 25th after being given a clean bill of health by doctors. On Friday April 28th when she went to get a dressing on the wound, she subsequently asked the nurse for a photograph of the area when they realized that there were no stitches. She was later informed that the area was infected so it could not be stitched. The family is accusing the hospital staff of gross negligence since they believe that the area would not have been infected had it been stitched back.
MP Ameen says such a report is troubling for any mother who will seek health care at our nation’s hospitals and she believes it’s incumbent on the Minister of Health to clear the air on this situation by launching a thorough investigation. MP Ameen says an immediate investigation is necessary to understand the details that led to this situation and prevent any further issues from arising.
