Ministry considers digital portals for schools
Schools across the country will soon get a boost to its technological capacity and internet capability.
Education Minister Dr. Tim Gopeesingh said this is because the Ministry of Education is looking into digital portals and Wi-fi connection for schools.
“We are also purchasing a digital portal so all the information we need for the students to have will be stored in that digital portal. We are also working feverishly for the introduction of Wi-fi systems in each one of our secondary schools to start with and then to the primary schools, and improve the connectivity to about and 25 to 30 megabytes with dedicated fibre optic so that the students would be able to use the laptops more easily and more readily.”
The Minister said plans are also afoot to purchase storage capacity, expand computer labs and interactive white boards.
He also confirmed that a tender evaluation is underway and he expects that laptops will be provided to Form One students in September.
