Minister of Education Neglecting Duty at Carapichaima East Secondary School
The Minister of Education continues to neglect his duty to hundreds of students attending the Carapichaima East Secondary School as he has failed to address the persistent problem of a pigeon infestation at the school.
This situation has become unbearable for the students and teachers as some have been affected by skin rashes and breathing problems due to the pigeon droppings.
Since the re-opening of the new school term, students of the school have been sent home daily by 10:00am. The Form 5 students sitting CSEC examinations have not attended school and in some cases are meeting with teachers out of school for revision and final preparations for exams.
During the urgent questions session in Parliament on Friday, I posed the question asking what was being done to rectify the problem. Minister Garcia’s answer was a non-committal one where he stated EFCL was working on it.
The actions by Minister Garcia and the EFCL to date reminds one of the famous play, ‘Waiting for Godot’ where teachers, staff and hundreds of students are waiting for the Minister of Education and EFCL to visit the school to fix the problem yet they have not arrived and may never do so.
This continues to be the hallmark of this government as they continue to fail the children of the nation by empty words and broken promises.
Again I appeal to the Minister of Education to please treat with this issue as a high priority one and direct EFCL to fix this problem as hundreds of students continue to lose out on a sound education.
