Kudos to Works Ministry
THE EDITOR: Last week my younger cousin, who is attending the University of the West Indies and is currently in the second year of her programme, started her stint as an On the Job Trainee (OJT) with the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure. Nothing remarkable there. However, what is remarkable is that she informed me a significant proportion of her class was also afforded the invaluable opportunity to gain work experience through this programme.
Coupled with this was the more than generous stipend she will receive while in the programme. I recalled my day as a university student when these opportunities were few and far between. I applaud the Government and the administrators of this programme for this move and for moving the programme into new and unconventional areas such as tourism. When we speak about developing our resources, we cannot do enough to develop our most important resource, our human resource!
