KAMLA: BEST WISHES TO OLYMPIC TEAM T&T
As the national Olympic Team gets set to compete in this year’s Games in Rio, I offer my best wishes to all our athletes.
Trinidad and Tobago won one Gold and three Bronze medals in London in 2012 and placed 47 out of 79 in the standings in the Games. That was a remarkable achievement and I have no doubt that our athletes would do even better in Brazil.
Competing in sports requires dedication, commitment and regimented training. That is why when I was Prime Minister I ensured that my government devoted much of our capital investment to establish world class athletic facilities in our country.
We built:
· National Cycling Centre
· National Aquatic Centre
· National Tennis centre
· Siparia Regional Sport Complex
At the local level we enhanced sporting facilities in communities everywhere, with a focus on refurbishing and installing lights in more than 100 recreation grounds.
Sport is an essential part of national development. I remain committed to supporting our national sports men and women.
We are proud the past achievements of our athletes and we are ready to wave the flag and stand with our team for these games.
