How Many More Must Die? MP Michelle Benjamin Slams Govt Inaction

Member of Parliament for Moruga/Tableland, Ms. Michelle Benjamin, MP,
I am deeply saddened and outraged by the brutal home invasion in St. Mary’s, Moruga, which resulted in the tragic death of an elderly woman. This heinous act is yet another devastating blow to our community, which has been living in fear due to the unchecked rise in violent crime.
For months, I have repeatedly called on the Minister of National Security to prioritize crime-fighting efforts in Moruga/Tableland, where home invasions, robberies, and murders have become all too common. Despite my pleas, the government continues to turn a blind eye to the suffering of our people, offering empty promises while families are left grieving their loved ones.
How many more innocent lives must be lost before the government takes real action? The people of Moruga/Tableland deserve to feel safe in their own homes, yet criminals operate without fear of consequence. This is a complete failure of leadership and a betrayal of the most basic duty of any government—to protect its citizens.
I am once again demanding immediate intervention:
-Increased police presence in high-crime areas of Moruga/Tableland
-Better-equipped police stations to ensure swift response times
-A comprehensive crime plan that addresses the root causes of violence in our rural communities
The people of Moruga/Tableland will not be ignored any longer. We deserve action, not excuses. I stand with the grieving family in this moment of unimaginable loss, and I will continue to fight for justice and security for all our residents.
