Honouring Sacrifice and Freedom: Remembrance Day Message from the Opposition Leader

As we observe Remembrance Day 2024, I wish to pay tribute to the memories and legacies of all the veterans, and non-combat persons, who sacrificed their lives, well-being, and futures on and off the battlefields of the past World Wars to fight for the noble cause of freedom and dignity.

I also wish to pay tribute to their families, past and present, who would have lost breadwinners, sons, husbands, and fathers, in service to country and humankind.

Their sacrifices have ensured that we enjoy democracy and its governing principles of freedom and equality to this day, and for this, we must always be grateful.

Indeed, today where so many wars and conflicts prevail in various countries across the world, we are reminded that freedom is a precious, and fragile, gift that can easily be eroded or destroyed when we least expect it.

Therefore, on Remembrance Day 2024, we should not just reflect on the past, but take stock of our present and ensure that we always commit to a future of freedom for all humanity by espousing and enabling the principles of equality and justice for all.

For, in truth, the best way to honour our veterans and heroes of the past battles and their families is to preserve a world where the bells of freedom forever ring, and the rights, dignity, and liberties of all human beings prevail.
