Government doing the mannequin challenge while criminals run rampant
Richard Ramlal was reported missing on Sunday morning, January 22, 2017. His body was found floating in a stream at Woodland, Oropouche, on Tuesday afternoon, January 24, 2017.
I send condolences to the family of Richard Ramlal and on behalf of the legal fraternity I send deepest sympathies to my colleague, Attorney-at-Law Selwyn Ramlal.
Every day at least one person is murdered somewhere in Trinidad and Tobago. Much more troubling is the fact that every day citizens are victims of robbery with violence, young girls raped and bodies dumped, parents burying their murdered sons and wives becoming widows. The three Ministers of National Security and the Prime Minister as the head of the National Security Council are all helpless to give us hope. They are in a state of a mannequin challenge.
We ask the Prime Minister to please stop blaming the former PP Government or the Leader of the Opposition for the dire state of the killing field that is now Trinidad and Tobago. The election campaign was over since September 07, 2015. On the 15 August 2015 The Honourable Prime Minister at the University Of Woodford Square said “I am their problem because I am your solution”. Well Sir, what are you solving now?
There can be no question that the irruption of a culture of criminal impunity is a reflection of executive impotence, or collaboration with community leaders which is now rampant. The daily pain inflicted on citizens by our government failure is intolerable. After 16 months in government the Honourable Prime Minister said his Ministers were settling in their portfolios. Get down to work Prime Minister, you are in charge now or as you have said “if you are in Government and you cannot solve crime then you are part of it.”
