Former Minister Writes Ghana Seeking Clarification on Le Hunte Citizen Status
Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs and
Regional Integration,
Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration
Post Office Box M53,
Accra – Ghana
Honorable Minister:
I write to you a former Cabinet Minister and political / social activist of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. I wish to ascertain the status of Mr. Robert Le Hunte, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the HFC Bank Ghana Limited, who was appointed Minister of Government of Trinidad and Tobago but his appointment had to be revoked due to the fact that he was a citizen of Ghana.
On the 28th August 2017, Mr. Le Hunte Ministerial appointment was revoked by the President of Trinidad and Tobago pending Mr. Le Hunte “rectifying his position” and on the 31st August, Mr. Le Hunte was again sworn in as Minister of Government.
Can you please confirm that Mr Le Hunte’s Ghanaian citizenship was revoked within a mere 3 days and in accordance with the laws of Ghana with a Renunciation Certificate being issued as required. Was Mr. Le Hunte afforded any special treatment by the Government of Ghana to expedite this process?
Thanking you in Advance
Devant Maharaj
Former Minister of Food Production
