Dr. Michael Dowlath is a highly respected educator, administrator, and the UNC’s candidate for San Fernando West, bringing more than three decades of leadership in education to the national political stage.
He retired in 2021 after serving 15 years as Principal of Naparima College, one of the most prestigious secondary schools in the country.
His distinguished career spans 34 years in secondary education, including 20 years as a school principal—first at Iere High School for five years, followed by his long-standing tenure at Naparima.
Dr. Dowlath holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry and Biochemistry, a Postgraduate Diploma and M.A. in Education, as well as a Ph.D. in Education. In addition to his school leadership, he served as a part-time lecturer at UWI’s School of Education for over two decades (1996–2018), where he played a vital role in training future educators.
His contributions to national education policy include serving as Chairman of the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (2010– 2015) and interim Chairman of the Cabinet-appointed GATE Committee (2011–2015). His deep involvement in civic life is further reflected in his service as an elder and lay preacher in the Presbyterian Church, exemplifying his values-driven approach to leadership.
A husband and father of two, Dr. Dowlath is now stepping into electoral politics with a clear mission: to bring principled, people-centered representation to San Fernando West, and to champion educational reform, youth development, and meaningful solutions to community challenges.
