Councillor Rallies Christmas Carolers to Raise Funds for the Less Fortunate
Councillor for Reform / Manahambre Chris Hosein has stepped up to the challenge to counteract what he is calling “opposition victimization” and has rallied a group of Christmas carolers who have hit the streets in an effort to raise funds for hampers for the less fortunate this Christmas season. This venture has come on the heels of a lack of funding for Christmas activities in the respective electoral districts as no funds have been released to the PTRC from the Ministry over the past few months. This has effectively thrown Councillors into a tailspin as the money allocated to their electoral districts would have been used for Christmas treats for children, hampers for the less fortunate and to assist the various NGOs in their Christmas activities.
“I see this as the height of opposition victimization and the Government of the day has shown that they have absolutely no compassion for the citizens of this country. Workers are going unpaid and it would seem as though the government is working overtime to kill whatever is left of the Christmas spirit in Trinidad and Tobago” Councillor Hosein said in an interview. He went on to explain “But they will not break us. I am not prepared to throw my hands up and give in to the wickedness of this government. I’ve gathered a dedicated group of community activists who understand the plight of the needy and we will raise the funds to ensure the less fortunate families don’t go hungry this Christmas.”
Councillor Hosein is calling the initiative “The Councillor’s Christmas Carolers” and it would continue for the rest of this week. The councillor has also advised that persons wishing to donate items towards the hampers can contact his office at 270-9698.
