Councillor Laments State Of National Security Over Murder of Burgess
Councillor for Reform / Manahambre Chris Hosein has lashed out at Minister of National Security Edmund Dillon over his lack of enthusiasm and political will in addressing the out of control crime scourge. Hosein was speaking at the home of relatives of murdered Deoraj Bedessie of Black Street, Reform Village earlier this afternoon as police and Crime Scene Investigators were on the scene removing the remains of the body of Bedessie.
“We have reached a point where the entire country is a crime hotspot because no longer is the criminal activity concentrated in one particular area. A village like Reform where you would hardly even hear about disputes between neighbours and we are now hearing of murders. This is beyond unsettling, beyond disturbing and absolutely unacceptable.” Hosein said passionately. He added “we have three ministers of National Security and a Prime Minister who is head of the National Security Council and since they have taken over the reigns of power, the crime rate has skyrocketed.”
Councillor Hosein reiterated the need for neighbourhood watch groups in an effort for burgesses to be more alert and secure themselves to a certain extent. He called for increased police patrols throughout the electoral district of Reform / Manahambre to keep an eye on things and has committed to working with the various NGOs, CBOs and residents to form community watch groups which will have a healthy relationship with the TTPS, Municipal Police and organizations such as Crime Stoppers.
Hosein reiterated that if the Prime Minister and those in authority whose first responsibility should be national security cannot do their job, they should resign and make way for those who are more capable in the interest of the security of the Trinbagonian people.
