Confidence in Our Nation
In a poll conducted by Solution by Simulation, and published in the Trinidad Express newspaper, it appears that the nation has renewed its confidence in the nation and the government ahead of the upcoming general election. But while emphasis is being placed on the popularity of the Prime Minister versus the lack of popularity of the Leader of the Opposition, this poll reveals a trend that should not be welcomed and appreciated. For the first time since 2011 it seems, since historical data of the poll ends there, there is an upsurge in confidence being shown in all the pillars of our society. The data for Education, Health, Judiciary, Parliament, Police and even the media have all risen to their highest levels of public confidence in this latest assessment, with the Financial Sector also on the rise after some dips along the way.
This data shows that the energy that the detractors of this government have exerted in misleading the population has not only gone in vain, but has now shown to be proven completely false and without merit. They were many who claimed that this country could not achieve nor maintain stability under a PP government unless a proverbial hell froze over. Not only has that hell not frozen over, but the penetrating rays of the rising sun has now re-inspired the full confidence of the people throughout the length and breadth of this beautiful country.
This is indeed a momentous time in the evolution of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago and the development of our nation. It seems like only yesterday we were all joined in battle, arm in arm and side by side, against a creeping dictatorship and totalitarian PNM regime. The victory in 2010 was one of Titanic proportions and demonstrated the almost unanimous desire for better governance. So to now witness the confidence of the nation rising after a full term in office, it is safe to say that this government has not only fulfilled the mandate set out to it by the citizens, but has surpassed it in almost every way possible. The Express article surmises that “This election may come down to who turns out to vote”, but with confidence like this being shown in the current administration, one can only expect that a re-election is imminent.
