Clyde Elder

Clyde Elder

Constituency : La Brea

Clyde Elder is a seasoned trade unionist and respected community advocate, now contesting the La Brea seat as a candidate for the United National Congress (UNC).

He is widely recognized for his tenure as Secretary General of the Communications Workers’ Union (CWU), where he championed the rights of telecommunications and postal workers across Trinidad and Tobago. A fearless advocate for labour, Elder became known for his unwavering commitment to employee welfare—even facing physical removal from TSTT’s headquarters while addressing worker grievances, a testament to his hands-on leadership and boldness in the face of corporate resistance.

Elder has also collaborated with the Oilfield Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) through joint labour initiatives, and in the lead-up to the 2025 elections, he was presented—alongside fellow unionist Ernesto Kesar— as part of a “Coalition of Interests” effort to advance a workers-first agenda on the national stage.

A former member of the labour-based Movement for Social Justice (MSJ), Elder has built a reputation for integrity, resilience, and principled leadership. His decades-long commitment to social justice, job security, and equitable development now form the cornerstone of his campaign in La Brea.

He is determined to bring the voices of workers and underserved communities into Parliament, focusing on job creation, fairness, and community upliftment.
