Chaguanas West special electors begin voting tomorrow
The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) has advised special electors for the Chaguanas West bye-election that the special polling station to be established by the returning officer, in accordance with Election Rule 73 (1) of the Representation of the People Act, will function from tomorrow to July 28.
In a statement, the EBC said special electors were not entitled to vote at any polling station on election day. They must vote at the special polling station established by the returning officer located 62 Eleanor Street, Chaguanas between 9 am and 3 pm during the specified period.
The EBC said special electors who do not vote within the stipulated period are required to return the envelope containing the unused ballot paper to the nearest Registration Area Office or to the office of the Chief Election Officer, Scott House, Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain, immediately after Polling Day.
It also noted that according to Section 70 (1) of the Representation of the People Act Chap 2:01, a person is guilty of an offence if at any election he forges or counterfeits any ballot paper, fraudulently defaces or fraudulently destroys any ballot paper, without due authority supplies any ballot paper to any person which he is authorised by law to put in, without due authority destroys, takes, open or otherwise interferes with any ballot box or special ballot paper then in use for the purposes of the election.
