Analyst: UNC members will not jump ship for Warner’s new party
Political Analyst Dr. Indira Rampersad does not believe senior members of the United National Congress will defect to a political party headed by Mr. Jack Warner.
Mr. Warner was rejected as the UNC candidate for the Chaguanas West bye-election on Friday and since then, there have been rumours that he may launch his own party to contest the July 29th bye-election.
Fired Justice Minister Herbert Volney said he would don Mr. Warner’s green campaign colour and is of the view that others would leave the UNC and follow Mr. Warner as well.
But Dr. Rampersad does not share the same sentiment.
She said: “I don’t think those who are in power and who hold portfolios and official posts are going to jump to Mr. Warner. It is not the usual or rationale move that politicians will make. Politicians recognise very well the importance of power, the importance of being in power and the power of party politics as well.”
