A spade is a spade
To “call a spade a spade” is a figure of speech, which explicitly calls out something as it is. The implication is not to lie about what something is and instead to speak honestly and directly about a topic, specifically topics that others may avoid speaking about due to their sensitivity, unpleasant or embarrassing nature.
Opposition Senator Faris Al-Rawi has said two reports by the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) and the Police Service into allegations of the re-establishment of a Flying Squad in July 2012 recommended that criminal charges should be considered against officers involved in the operation. He also said the reports were dated December 13, 2013 and were “earth-shattering.”
The use of very strong works like “earth-shattering” gives the impression that whatever was occurring with respect to the flying squad is detrimental to all our citizens.
For this reason, I must agree with the Minster of National Security and the Attorney General, that the leak of such a report is a breach of national security. In other countries, such a leak would be investigated with the intensity of the missing MH370 flight from Malaysia.
We must learn to call a spade a spade.
