Women’s Affairs Officers Training and Capacity Building Workshop
On Saturday 9th April 2016 the Women’s Executive of the National Women’s Arm hosted a Capacity Building and Training Workshop at the Chaguanas Borough Corporation that was well attended by the Women’s Affairs Officers of the various UNC Constituency Executives.
This Workshop was conducted Mrs Hazel Brown the Founder of the Network of NGO’s, she was accompanied by Mrs Ellen Camps who has worked extensively with local and international executives on self-empowerment, team building and communication practices. Senator Khadijah Ameen who is also the Deputy Political Leader of the UNC and Former Deputy Mayor Mrs Sabrina Mowlah Baksh presented modules on developing work plans and recruiting women leaders.
The goal of the workshop was political empowerment through self-empowerment. The objectives of this workshop were aimed at getting to know the various Women’s Officers and appreciating their collective resources, enabling meaningful conversations on plans and activities throughout the various Constituencies, building creative capacities, self-esteem and managing challenges. It was a participatory and interactive forum that encouraged effective communication and team building, the workshop encouraged women to come forward and participate in Politics and issues of the day that affects women and people in general.
Participant evaluations demonstrated that the workshop was a resounding success and the women expressed their commitment to building a stronger Women’s Arm and by extension, their dedication to the United National Congress.
