We must consider all aspects
The Editor:
The construction of the Point Fortin highway was first conceived by the Patrick Manning administration. In 2010, the multi-billion dollar highway began with the issue of land acquisition under the PNM. There is no doubt that such a project will benefit not only the people in the southern peninsula but the whole country since we all journey there at times no matter where we reside. I must commend the current administration for taking this project forward.
I must echo the sentiments of the Attorney General where no one protested when swamp land was reclaimed to build Movie Towne. He also pointed out that the Caroni swamp was still preserved to date although in a different shape after being split in two to construct the Solomon Hochoy Highway. We must remember to date, the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway is the major north-south highway in Trinidad and Tobago.
Everyone wants to use hunger strike to strike a moment to fame but is it worth it? Are they considering all the populous or is it for self-serving reasons? It makes no sense following misguided beliefs without concerning the facts.
One thing is for certain, there is always the rule of law which we all must follow. Given the fact that the high court has dismissed all actions against the highway thus far should we continue to go against this?
We must consider the mass wastage of taxpayers’ dollars to deviate from current plans.
