Warner, let’s have a better defence
Jack Warner’s responses to his alleged corruption charges come up wanting. Warner claimed that he did not travel abroad on Government business because he did not want to waste money.
As the Minister of National Security, it was his duty to travel abroad to make proper representation on behalf of the Prime Minister and the country as a whole. However, on many occasions, Mr Warner simply refused to leave the country, according to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissesar.
Mr Warner’s defence that he was in Miami last November is weak, and does not address why he and his son are the subjects of an enquiry by the Government of the US, into a range of corporate white collar criminal offences.
The fact that last November, the case against Mr Warner had not yet manifested itself in the public domain. In fact, Mr Warner’s son apparently cannot leave the United States as well, as he is restricted from doing so as part of the federal investigation.
Now that all the information is in the public domain, Mr Warner really expects us to believe that he wanted to save the country’s money?
Nevertheless, Mr Warner’s refusal to travel for Government business also borders on insubordination and is indicative of an individual who is self-opinionated.
I would like to ask Mr Warner why is it so hard for him to clear his name?
We supported Mr Warner as our MP initially, but amidst all the corruption charges, he should clear his name, or at least provide a better defence.
